I read Rules by Cynthia Lord and when I heard about this book I had to get it! Not disappointing and easily as good as Rules, I loved this book to the end. I don't know if she has any other books, but if she does, I'm definitely going to get them! This book is about 11 yr old Tess who lives on one of Maine's islands. The island has only one school, with only one teacher, Tess's mom. When Tess's best friend and her 3 siblings move away, the governor decides the school doesn't have enough kids so they are going to shut it down, meaning Tess and her family, (and all the other families with kids) will have to move.
None of them want to do that, so they hatch a plans that 3 families will take on 4 foster kids, 8 year old boy twins (Henry and Matthew), 13 year old boy (Aaron), and 6 year old girl (Grace). Tess's family gets Aaron the 13 year old. At first Aaron doesn't want to be there, and this book goes through the journey of Aaron feeling welcome.
Overall, great book and once again Cynthia Lord did an amazing job.

I loved this book. It felt realistic, and I liked how it didn’t have a completely happy ending, but things turned out good in the end. I would totally recommend this book.
I rated this book a five star because I like that you go on a journey with Tess and Aaron. I like that it talks about luck and bad luck. The blue lobster reminded me of Aaron . I think the author out did herself. I loved the book and you will to! -)
book arrived with definite water damage through out every page. I was not expecting that it would be damaged. BUT the story was excellent and appropriate for read aloud concerning foster care, keeping secrets, bullying, and family dynamics.
Bought for my sons as his class is reading this and he forgot his hard copy at school and needed it for homework. Read through it pretty quickly after he did his homework and its a nice story.
-) => 3 <3 <3 loved it soo much this was the best thing I've ever read!!!!!!!!-) well it says 3 more words required so that's why there is more words but I really did love this book though
My son is 12 years old and doesn't like to read. He needed to do a book report and I was searching for similar books he read for summer reading. He likes this book so much and found it interesting he finished reading it in 2days. I was pretty impressed. Cynthia Lord makes good books for 7th graders.
"Touch blue and your wish will come true." ~ This book is filled with interesting superstitions that your students will love, but most importantly, this book teaches readers what it means to stop trying to control your life and the many definitions of a family. I use this book as a whole class literature study at the beginning of 4th grade, and Aaron is a wonderful character to use when teaching about inferring character traits.
